The Day The Earth Stood Still

the beauty
still left around you
and be happy.”

Dear Journal,
It is now the second week of quarantine in response to Covid19 Outbreak. starting in China, onto Europe and now into the US, at first, no one could even imagine what was to come, before the world halted to a stop.
Before this, I remember sitting with a group of friends quietly conversing over this epidemic, one person in the group was expressing his concern on whether or not the disease would reach us, we attempted to console him, little did we know that it would get so much worse.
Weeks later all schools are closed. With students learning virtually, the government reported that schools weren't likely to reopen until the next year. I hope that is true, I miss my friends, job and enjoying campus life.
Despite this, I know I am a lot more fortunate than others out there, luckily my mom and my oldest brother still have their jobs, and unlike most of my senior friends I still have one more year of University. Most importantly we still have food and none of us have gotten sick.. Yet.
Though we all tried to be cautious Just last night mom brought home groceries, before putting away the food she first wiped down every can and box cleaning product before putting it away in the cupboard.
Other precautions include wiping anything that anyone touches in an attempt to combat the transfer of disease. We take our shoes off right at the front landing and wiping down before storing back into the shelf.

Finally the end of March has come, Though as my mother predicted would happen, we were advised to stay inside until the end of April as we have not yet hit the peak of this virus. Sighing in deep frustration after receiving this news and staring at the calendar hanging on the beige wall calculating the days. “30 more.. That shouldn't be too bad” I whispered to myself
I have been kept busy with daily chores around the house. Though I do wish we had warm summer weather back.

It's now finals week so I have been drowning in homework. Thankfully I don't have any exams, just working on Final Portfolios.
In terms of the virus not much has changed. The stay-at-home lockdown is now re-extended until May 15. Most people show their disagreement , protesting and not following the safety precautions; but mom and I believe that she is just trying to protect us.
Despite all this I have also encountered some positivity. I've received a letter from the University stating they plan to reopen campus next Fall.
This letter, a ray of hope, encourages me to keep going through this difficult time. As Anne Frank once said “When there’s hope there’s life. It fills us with fresh courage and makes us strong again.”
